The Great, Gay, Bali Getaway

Posted on October 17, 2017 by The Quest

11th – 23rd February 2018, 13 nights.

Nature – Sea  – Culture – Relaxation – Connection

February is the time of the year that our vitamin D levels hit rock bottom, we are weary of the long dark nights and the cold clasp of zero degree temperatures tests our spirits.

What better time to schedule an amazing sunshine holiday that will lift the spirits and set you up for the year ahead?

The Great Bali Getaway is the chance to experience the beauty and essence of this incredible island within a group of adventurous gay men. Its a relaxation holiday like no other- combining all the sensuous joys of Bali – the massage, infinity pools, yoga, rituals and nature along with the friendship and camaraderie of a wonderful group of men.

Darren Brady, your guide, spent 6 weeks in this incredible part of the world getting to know the best places to stay and visit. He has created what he thinks is a unique itinerary combining all the key elements that Bali is famous for.

1. Ubud – the spiritual centre of Bali. 2 nights

This is where we gather in the serene beauty of the Artini 3 cottages resort. There are 2 pools overlooking paddy fields, exotic landscaped gardens and wonderful Balinese influenced accommodation – all a stones throw from the lively spiritual town life. Here you will unwind from the flight, get accustomed to the heat, take a massage or two and meet your fellow travelers.

We stay in Ubud centre for 2 nights and there is the opportunity to explore the town, local temples, sample local cuisine, observe Hindu rituals and if you fancy participate in any number of classes at the world renowned Yoga Barn. It’s a chance to let go of the cold, dark London nights and to step into the tranquil and wonderfully slow pace of Bali.

We will meet twice a day as a group – in the morning there will be optional meditation before breakfast and a post breakfast gathering to connect. In the early evening there will be a gathering to share and explore our thoughts, feelings and experience as we travel together. Darren will outline some activity options available for those wishing to be active. For those wishing to simply relax and take things as they come there is plenty of time and space during the day and evenings to do your own thing.

2. Paddy field Countryside. 6 nights

We now go off grid! The group has exclusive use of the unique settlement of Hati Suci in the heart of the famous paddy fields of Bali – overlooked by the volcanic mountain of Mount Agung. This cluster of traditional Javanese cottages are arranged around a saltwater swimming pool, massage area, yoga space and home grown fruits and vegetables.

Created by Tim and Giles this wonderful environment will give you chance to experience nature, authentic local life and explore the local countryside with its temples, waterfalls and villages surrounded by music and tradition.

There are options to go on a moped tour, walking tour, waterfall/temple excursion and sunrise mountain hike for those energetic types. Poolside massage sessions are bookable for those taking things a little easier!

Along with the daily group gatherings there will be a Open Floor Movement evening and a couple of trips to local restaurants included in this section of the trip.

3. Desert Island Paradise. 4 nights

We now head off to a tiny island devoid of cars and traffic, surrounded by coral reef and turquoise waters.

Gili Meno, just off Lombok is surrounded by tropical sealife. Here life is simple and slow. We stay at the islands elegant hotel Siri but we keep it simple staying in their traditional ‘Bale’ dwellings (Upgrades to luxury villas are available) The hotel boasts an infinity pool overlooking the ocean, diving / snorkelling facilities, an incredible bamboo yoga hall and a wonderful restaurant with views looking over to the sister island of Gili Air.

This is the stage of the trip where you have no option but to completely unwind. Reading books, sunbathing, swimming, yoga, snorkelling and daily massages are the name of the game here.

For those with itchy feet it is a short boat trip over to the fellow islands of Gili Trawangan and Gili Air where there are party options for those seeking a heady night out.

4. Ubud. 1 night

We return to mainland Bali and start our return to modern day life.

We return once more to Ubud and the lap of luxury at the Artini 3 cottages to relax before setting off the next day for the return flight home.
